For this challenge I have chosen ten key words associated with each month in 2013. Your task is to read one book each month whose title includes one or more of the key words for that month. For instance, in January I might read Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. The key words are listed below.
GUIDELINES
* The title you choose can be a variation on one of the key words. For example- your title could include the word 'snowing' or 'snowflake' even though the key word is 'snow.'
*Key words can be tweaked. For example- You could read "Cinder" or "Ashes" for the key word 'Fire' and that would be just fine. If the key word is 'family' then your title could include the word 'sister' or 'mother.'If the key word is 'food' then your title could include the word 'cake.'
* Link up below to participate and add additional links any time you post about the challenge or post about a book you read for the challenge.

NEW LINKY FOR APRIL REVIEWS HERE
Ooh interesting challenge - count me IN. I'll write up a post later in the year, and then add it to the linky - or can we just add the general blog address? Also, not sure if you already know about "http://novelchallenges.blogspot.com/" - where you can send your challenges and they will re-post them.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! You can just add your general address to the linky. I submitted to Novel Challenge so hopefully it'll be posted soon.
DeleteVery cool! I'm in...I'm hoping it's okay that books count for other challenges. Because I've already got some titles lined up that work well for the key words.
ReplyDeleteTotally okay! I plan to overlap some of my titles too!
DeleteThree read for January key words!

Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for stopping by. That Spine Speak button was actually made from a photo taken during my engagement session. Haha! I love books so much they had to be in my engagement photos. And I added a follow by email option to the sidebar so you can follow that way if you'd like.

ReplyDeleteYay! You're doing both challenges I'm hosting this year. Thanks Amanda!
DeleteSounds like a great challenge to me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kara!
DeleteI LOVE this! I've been searching online all morning for the *perfect* reading challenge by month for 2013 and this is by far the best. Thanks! :) Time to go peruse my bookshelves!
ReplyDeleteThank you! So glad you're joining up.
DeleteYou can count me in. I've already figured out my books for the year. Thanks for hosting this fun challenge.
ReplyDeleteSounds great! I'd love to hear your picks for each month. Glad to have you joining us.
DeleteHi! My question is: do the words have to be read the specific month, or can we fulfill the twelve whenever it works out for us? I'm one of those folks who does a million challenges and cross over as much as possible. :)
ReplyDeleteI am totally not going to be picky on reading the book in the specific month. I just want everyone to be able to have fun with the challenge so do what works for you! :)
DeleteI have the same question as cmriedel - must each month's book be read in that particular month? Or could I read, for example, a March book in January?
ReplyDeleteHi Lynne- Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back to you. You can read them in whatever order you like. I want the challenge to work for you and be fun!
DeleteQuestion on whether this would work for January. For white, Geisha: A Life, because their is a geisha in white makeup on the cover and she discusses their traditional white makeup a lot in the book. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes! That would totally work. I think it's fun for everyone to adapt the key words in their own way to fit their books.
DeleteWhere do I add my review link? In the participants sign up linky?
ReplyDeleteShelleyrae @ Book'd oUt
Hi Shelley! Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back to you. I'll add a review linky to the Monthly Key Word Challenge page (click on the tab at the top of the blog.) Thanks for bringing this up- I'd forgotten to get to that.
DeleteThank you for hosting this challenge. I'm so excited to join this :D
ReplyDeleteYay! So glad you are excited. It will be fun.
DeleteThis looks like a really fun challenge, thanks for hosting it. I've already made a list with potential books for the whole year, although it'll probably have to be tweaked as I go along, as there are several books on it that I'm not going to wait months and months to read.
ReplyDeleteAlso, can I read more than one book a month for the key word challenge? Looking through my TBR list, I have a LOT of books that fit with some of these key words. Frankly, narrowing it down to only one could be tricky. :)
DeleteHeck yeah! Read as many as you want each month! Go rockstar on it. I love that. Also, you can read them in any order. Thanks for joining!
DeleteHi! Not sure how to add a link below without publishing something extra to my own site, but I read A Flame in Byzantium by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro for the January challenge.
ReplyDeleteI've already published my review for it and mentioned the keyword challenge in my post!
Here it is: http://www.dreamworldbooks.com/2013/01/a-flame-in-byzantium-by-chelsea-quinn.html
Hey Sarah! Sorry it's taken me a bit to get to you. I'll post a linky to the Monthly Key Word Challenge page. Get there by clicking the tab at the top of the blog. I'll add your first book to the linky. Thanks!
Deletehave joined - sounds interesting - will look see what I have and what I need to find:)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks for joining Alberta. Can't wait to see what you pick.
DeleteI wrote about the book I dicided to read for this month. The book is Winter garden by Kristin Hannah.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love that book. I'm posting a linky to the Monthly Key Word Challenge page that you can link your reviews to each month. Get there by clicking on the tab at the top of the blog. Sorry I'm slow on this.
Deletea little late in linking up my January review, even though I had finished the book. I had so much to say about Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and I still don't know that I did the book justice. Loved it! Now onto Feb and To Kill a Mockingbird.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you liked it. I bought a copy of it at a book sale last year but haven't read it yet.
DeleteHi =)
ReplyDeleteI would like to participate in this challenge. May i read in portuguese and after post about the book i read in my blog?
Yes, that's fine.
DeleteSo... my February entry is "Bloody Mary" NOT Bloody Murder *sigh* there was a lot of killing in that book lol
ReplyDeleteHere is the link: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/531618160
Lol. That's funny. "A psychopathic murderer, a hilarious cat, old people with super libido, and Jack." I love that. Totally makes me want to read this!
DeleteI honestly thought I had linked up my January book, but I scanned through the link list and it's not there. Brain is fried, I guess! I did read it in January, as evidenced by my review. Just so you know I'm being honest. =O)
ReplyDeleteMy February book might be stretching it a bit, but when I saw that diamond was a key word and my book was The Shining, I thought of that Rihanna song, "Diamonds," and the line, "Shine bright like a diamond," (hate that song actually). Hope it works!
Ha ha. I think it works. You know, I've been thinking I probably should do a separate link up for each month. Maybe it would make it easier for everyone to link up? I think it would make it easier for me to go back through and read everyone's reviews without missing anyone too.
DeleteAny ideas for October books that don't contain horror would help me greatly. I'm so stuck on that month.
ReplyDeleteHi Rachael,
DeleteDeath on Demand by Carolyn Hart is a great little cozy mystery. Also Ghost at Work by Carolyn Hart (both are lighthearted mysteries- no bloody stuff)
The Death Cure (Maze Runner #3)
The Phantom Tollbooth
A Discovery of Witches is a personal favorite
The Near Witch by Victoria Schwab
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
